Fun & Sprites

This is a personal project.

GOAL

Create a board game to teach my 5-year-old daughter the importance of getting ready for school on time in the morning!

THINGS TO NOTE

  • In the game, we live in a big house infested with My Neighbor Totoro-styled Soot Sprites! We need to get ready on time to win, but the soot sprites don’t make it easy!

  • The game features two win conditions:

    • PASS: Dad’s (me) coffee, Mom’s art supplies, and Olivia’s backpack are in their target location. No more than 5 Soot Sprites in the house!

    • SUPERSTAR: Meet the Pass conditions, and all be in the same room as the Fun Star by the end of the 5th Round.

  • As a game designed for young kids, I made the systems need to be simple and clear.

  • As players have only two hands, there’s a strong focus on cooperative play.

  • The game was playtested inside Tabletop Simulator and made physically to play with family.
